Abstract: The application of EPR and optical reflection spectroscopy to the study of zeolites containing first-row transition metal cations is discussed. A qualitative theoretical analysis of the optical and magnetic properties of some ions with an unfilled (d)n electron shell is given. The most important results of EPR and reflection spectroscopic studies of the behaviour of transition metal cations in synthetic zeolites are presented.
