Abstract: This review deals with the chemical effects observed under the influence of laser light. The operating principle of the laser, the main types of laser, and the properties of laser radiation are briefly described. The application of laser techniques to the production and investigation of short-lived excited states is discussed. One-photon and multi-photon processes induced by laser radiation are considered. Several examples of the specificity of the reactions initiated by laser light are given.
