Abstract: A critical survey is made of studies on the mechanism, kinetics, and thermodynamics of the formation and the dissociation of chlorophyll, its metal analogues, and other metal porphyrins. Consideration is given mainly to results published during the past decade. Special attention is paid to complexes of the most important natural porphyrin–chlorophyllic acid. A list of 120 references is included.
