Abstract:
The paper examines the photochemical phenomena underlying the photodegradation of dyes in coloured polymeric materials and determining the rate and degree of fading of the dyeings. Methods are described for assessing quantitatively the light fastness of coloured materials, and the principles of a scientifically based standardisation of methods for testing the light fastness of dyeings are discussed. The effects of the conditions of exposure and the physicochemical properties of the dye and the polymer matrix on the light fastness of the dyeing are also considered. A list of 106 references is included.
