Abstract:
In contrast to carbon, silicon does not tend to form multiple bonds. Until recently it was believed that compounds with multiple bonds at the silicon atom do not exist, but in recent years results were obtained which permitted a new approach to this interesting and important problem in the chemistry of organosilicon compounds. The present review considers unsaturated compounds the compositions and properties of which may be described in terms of the hypothesis that the silicon atom forms (p–p)π double bonds. The bibliography includes 81 references.
