Abstract:
The most important ideas on the coking of various types of solid and liquid fuel are examined. Theoretical results are given summarising the thermal degradation of model organic compounds and polymers. Processes involved in the coking of various petroleum products, coal tar, and their mixtures with weakly caking, low-grade coals are analysed. Data are presented on the plastic state and the caking of coals of different degrees of metamorphism. Consideration is given to the caking of lignites and to the effect of the type and origin of brown coal on the physicomechanical parameters of the coke. Formulae are set out for calculating the yield of chemical products in the coking of coals and for predicting the properties of the coke. A list of 94 references is included.
