Abstract: The theoretical basis of the electrochemical method of studying mass and momentum transfer in solid–liquid systems is outlined. Published work on the most important practical applications of the method is reviewed, including electrochemical modelling of heat and mass transfer processes, measurement of averaged and spectral hydrodynamic characteristics of the interaction between a flow of liquid and a solid surface, and the study of the fine structure of turbulent boundary layers. Theoretical and practical problems arising in electrochemical transducers are discussed.
