Abstract:
Methods for the synthesis of α-diazosulphones are examined and a systematic account is given of the literature data on the physicochemical properties and ultraviolet, infrared, and NMR spectroscopy of this interesting class of aliphatic diazocompounds. Much attention is devoted to chemical reactions of α-diazosulphones via the intermediate formation of carbonium ions and sulphonyl carbenes as well as reactions involving the nitrogen of the diazo-group. In many cases a comparative description is given of the chemical properties of α-diazosulphones and α-diazoketones. The review constitutes the first compilation of the chemistry of α-diazosulphones available in the literature. The bibliography includes 76 references.
