Modern Ideas about the Mechanism of the Formation of the Structure of Graphitising Coke

Abstract: The review considers studies on the mechanism of low-temperature carbonisation, which determines the fundamental structural characteristics of carbonaceous materials. Particular attention has been devoted to the mesophase transformation as the principal factor responsible for the formation of the structure of graphitising coke. The structural features of various types of coke, whose formation proceeds via the mesophase transformation stage, are described.
