Abstract: The problems involved in the study and applications of Raman spectroscopy are considered, attention being mainly concentrated on resonance Raman spectroscopy. Theoretical studies are briefly surveyed and the applications of the method in the investigation of molecular structures and the mechanisms and kinetics of chemical reactions are discussed. Examples of the study of various organic, organometallic, and other compounds, polymers, haemoproteins, nucleotides, etc. are presented. The possible applications of the excitation spectra of resonance Raman lines are noted.
