The Photochemistry of Bilirubin

Abstract: The present state of research into the photochemical reactions of bilirubin in various media is examined. Data are presented on certain physical, chemical, and physicochemical properties of bilirubin. Attention is specially concentrated on photodynamic decomposition processes and photoisomerisation of bilirubin. The data are discussed in connection with the urgent problem of the use of light in the treatment of hyperbilirubinemia in children.
