Abstract:
The geometrical and thermodynamic aspects of the formation of complexes between metal cations and organic ligands are examined theoretically from the standpoint of conformational analysis. Particular attention has been devoted to the problem of the selectivity of the complex formation, which is of practical importance. It is shown that the selectivity of complex formation is largely determined by the steric factor. The advantages and disadvantages of the available methods for the quantitative allowance for the steric factor as well as methods of calculation of the structure of coordination compounds are analysed.
