The Thermodynamics of the Formation of Outer-sphere Complexes in Solution

Abstract: Data on the thermodynamics of the formation of outer-sphere complexes of coordination compounds of cobalt(III), rhodium(III), iridium(III), platinum(IV), chromium(III), iron(II), ruthenium(II), (III), and osmium(II) have been reviewed. Various regular features of outer-sphere complex formation by inert hydrophilic and hydrophobic cationic complexes with d6, d5, and d3 electron configurations of the central metal ion in aqueous and aqueous-organic solutions have been established.
