Abstract:
The literature data on the oxidation of human haemoglobin and the haemoglobin of other vertebrates in the form of complexes with ligands and in the free state are surveyed. The relation between conformational changes in oxyhaemoglobin and the rate of its autoxidation as well as the role of the chemical factors influencing the conformation of the protein, the active centre, and the rate of oxidation of haemoglobin are emphasised. The bibliography includes 121 references.
