Kinetics of the Radiation-induced and Photochemical Oxidation of Biomacromolecules in Aqueous Solutions

Abstract: The sequence of radiation-induced photochemical reactions of proteins, nucleic acids, and other biological species has been investigated: the primary stages in the formation of free macroradicals and other active products and their reactions leading to the modification of the primary structure of the biopolymers. Simplified versions of kinetic schemes which describe satisfactorily the experimental data are discussed. The redistribution of the initial damage-induced defects in protein–DNA–other cell components systems has been subjected to a formal kinetic analysis.
