Abstract:
The results of theoretical and experimental studies of the chemistry of polyiodo-iodates – complexes of iodine containing five or more iodine atoms in the anion – have been reviewed. The molecules of heterocyclic compounds with a planar configuration, chelates of d elements with macrocyclic planar ligands, and organic and inorganic polymers containing cavities and channels, on oxidation with iodine, tend to form compounds with polymeric anions in the form of quasi-one-dimensional chains. New ideas on iodine as a complex-forming species have been examined. The bibliography contains 222 references.
