Alkyl Orthoesters and Their Applications in Organic Synthesis

A systematic account is given of data characterising the chemical properties of alkyl esters of orthocarboxylic acids. The suggested reaction mechanisms are discussed and the extensive possibilities of the application of the orthoesters in the solution of various problems in organic synthesis are demonstrated.
