Abstract:
The application of the spontaneous and non-linear resonance Raman spectroscopic methods in studies on flavins and flavoproteins is examined. The biological functions of flavin systems are briefly surveyed and the parameters of the resonance Raman spectra and their relation with the electronic structure of the isoalloxazine ring in various oxidation states are described. The possibilities of identifying the flavin chromophore in a protein environment, in charge-transfer complexes, and in modified systems are discussed. The bibliography includes 115 references.
