Abstract:
Problems of the design and application in gas chromatography or photoionisation detectors with separated and non-separated ionisation and detection compartments are examined. The characteristics of the detectors of both types are described and specific problems of their construction are discussed. The mechanism of the signal generation and the factors determining the magnitude of the response are examined. Extensive experimental data concerning the use of photoionisation detectors with separated detection and ionisation compartments in gas-chromatographic analysis are presented. The application of such detectors in multi-detector schemes in combination with flame-ionisation, electron-capture, and other detectors is discussed. The employment of such combinations of detectors for the purposes of identification is analysed. The bibliography includes 151 references.
