Abstract: Data for the 15N–X spin–spin coupling constants and their relation with the structure of Group IV organoelement compounds are surveyed. The 15N and X chemical shifts are quoted. The experimental and theoretical aspects of the spin–spin coupling are briefly considered. It is shown that the possibility of measuring the given constants for the natural abundance of the isotopes and also of their sensitivity to the nature of the N–X chemical bond and various aspects of the electronic and steric structures of the molecules, which has arisen recently, has given rise to new prospects in strucural research on nitrogen-containing Group IV organoelement compounds.
