Abstract:
Data on the structure and photovoltaic properties of organic dye-sensitized solar cells published in the last five years are for the first time collected, systematized and generalized. The data for improved donor–$\pi$-spacer–acceptor structures are analyzed. The influence of structural factors in the donor and acceptor moieties and in the $\pi$-spacers on the power conversion efficiency of organic dyes containing an additional acceptor group is considered. The design strategies of highly efficient metal-free sensitizers are outlined. The review can be useful for a wide range of researchers working in the field of functional molecular materials. The bibliography includes 214 references.
