Abstract:
Methods of synthesis of the conjugates of polyhedral boron hydrides with natural and non-natural nucleosides are overviewed. These conjugates are of interest for their potential pharmaceutical use. Main synthetic approaches toward nucleosides based on 12-vertex closo-carboranes $(\mathrm C_2\mathrm B_{10}\mathrm H_{12})$, $11$-vertex nido-carboranes $([\mathrm C_2\mathrm B_9\mathrm H_{11}]^{-})$, metallacarboranes [cobalt and iron bis($1,2$-dicarbollides)] or closo-dodecaborates $([\mathrm B_{12}\mathrm H_{12}]^{2-})$ are described including modifications of nucleoside at nucleobase and sugar units.
