Abstract: The features of the luminescence spectra and photochemistry of heterocyclic amines, such as derivatives of pyridine, quinoline, acridine, and diazines, in liquid and solid solutions are examined. The relationship between the composition of the lowest electronically excited states and the luminescence and photochemical properties is analysed. Particular attention is given to the nature of the photochemically active, electronically excited state.
