Abstract: The present state of the problem of the use of immobilised cells of microorganisms for the synthesis of organic substances is analysed. The physicochemical properties of carrageenan and the characteristic features of the immobilisation of microorganism cells in carrageenan are examined and a systematic account is given of the results of treating carrageenan and the immobilised preparations with stabilising reagents.
