Abstract: Data on the interaction of nitrogen oxides in different oxidation states with dinitrogen tetroxide in the temperature range 273–1073 K and in the pressure range 0.1–10 MPa are surveyed. The mechanisms of the interaction of the dissociating N2O4⇄2NO2⇄2NO + O2 system, liquid N2O4, and N2O4 –organic solvent mixtures with uranium oxides are discussed as a function of the oxidation state of uranium, the specific surface and structure of the oxides, the state of aggregation of N2O4, the presence of impurities in the latter, and the presence of organic solvents. The behaviour of uranium oxides in relation to that of the other metal oxides is subjected to a comparative analysis.
