Abstract: A modified algorithm to solve an inverse kinematic problem of seismics based on the method of nonlinear ray seismic tomography is proposed. For parameterization of the medium’s model, a special smooth approximation technique using finite basis functions with well-controlled differential and spectral properties is employed. This representation of the solution makes it possible to avoid the smoothing procedure of the velocity grid function. Linear velocity obtained by the local optimization method is taken as an initial approximation.

Keywords: seismic tomography, inverse kinematic problem, basis functions, resolution of the identity method.
