Abstract: We consider in the one-dimensional version a model inverse problem of finding the initial state of the ocean surface. We prove that the initial state is uniquely determined by the oscillation regime of a sole point on the ocean surface. We give algorithms for solving the direct and inverse problems and include the results of test simulations.

Keywords: tsunami wave propagation, Cauchy problem, inverse problem, simulation algorithms.
