Integrated circuits designed for packet switches and routers

The article considers some programmable ASICs developed for use in high-throughput packet switches and routers, shows their typical struc- tures, and explains their characteristic features. Design approaches and ASIC architectures of the two leading companies, Motorola / Freescale and Intel are compared.
