Abstract: The article is dedicated to the blessed memory of the outstanding Russian topologist Evgeny Georgievich Pytkeev (1947–2022), a brilliant specialist in the field of functional analysis and set theory. Evgeny Georgievich was a prominent representative of the Ural topological school, founded by Professor Nikolai Vasilievich Velichko in the 70s of the last century. After completing his studies in 1972 at the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics of the Ural State University named after A.M. Gorky, E.G. Pytkeev became one of the first students of N.V. Velichko and made a significant contribution to the development of set-theoretical topology and function theory. This paper provides brief facts from the scientific biography of E.G. Pytkeev, discusses the results of his scientific research, his scientific ideas and methods, as well as their prospects in modern science. The teaching and publishing activities of Evgeny Georgievich and his significant contribution to the development of the school Olympiad movement in the Urals are especially noted.
