Auto-Bäcklund transformations for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with variable coefficients

A generalization of auto-Bäcklund transformations to the case of nonlinear equations with variable coefficients is considered, and the class of potentials for which the nonlinear Schrödinger equation admits these transformations is found.
