Abstract:
It is shown that in the general case the Cherenkov radiation of a taehyon cannot be axisymmetric with respect to the tachyon velocity $\mathbf{v}$. From this it is concluded that that the tachyon has a vectorial nature. The electric dipole is considered as the vector which characterizes the tachyon. Expressions are obtained for the spectrum of the Cherenkov radiation of a tachyon with allowance for the asymmetry for the case of a charged taehyon without dipole moment and for a neutral tachyon dipole oriented arbitrarily relative to $\mathbf{v}$. It is shown that the integrated characteristics of the Cherenkov radiation of tachyons of both types is the same, which indicates that the “vectoriality”
of tachyons is universal. A new integral of the motion, peculiar to taehyons, is found. An explanation is given for the negative results of attempts to detect the Cherenkov radiation of tachyons.
