Abstract: Using the analogy between the Ising model and an essentially nonlinear field theory it is shown that the selfconsistent Curie-Weiss solution can be obtained from a certain functional equation and that it corresponds to the quasiclassical approximation in field theory. The appearance of spontaneous magnetization can be interpreted as the formation of bound states.
