Investigation of the binary distribution function of a degenerate electron gas at short distances

A study is made of the possibility of a physically reasonable description of the correlations between particles at short distances in a degenerate electron gas at the electron densities characteristic of real metals. On the basis of the expression for the binary distribution function in the method of displacements and collective variables it is shown that such a description can be obtained by considering the quantum analog of the second virial coefficient.
