Abstract:
The influence of relative mass loss during torrefaction on the composition and volume yield of synthesis gas produced by the two-stage pyrolytic conversion of wood and peat was investigated experimentally. This study showes that synthesis gas with the desired $[\rm H_2]/[\rm CO]$ volume ratio in the range from $1$ to $2$ can be manufactured as a result of preliminary biomass torrefaction. In this case, the parameter that determines the composition of synthesis gas is the relative mass loss during torrefaction, calculated on a dry ash-free basis.
