Abstract:
The results of measurements of craters caused by the interaction between impactors moving at velocities of $2$–$6$ km/s and organic-glass targets are used to find the crater depth depending on the impact velocity and on the density ratio between the impactor and target, as well as on the target strength. A differential equation is derived for determining the crater shape, whose solution fits well the measurement results. The results of calculation of the dimensionless volume of the crater, its diameter, and the slope of its generatrix by the equation for the crater shape also fit well the measured values.
