Abstract: A small amount of crystalline carbon nitride $x$-$\mathrm{C}$$\mathrm{N}$ is synthesized under conditions of stepwise shock-wave compression to a pressure of $\sim14$ GPa of amorphous carbon nitride obtained by pyrolysis of mercuric thiocyanate $\mathrm{Hg}\mathrm{(SCN)}_2$. The $x$-$\mathrm{C}$$\mathrm{N}$ structure is characterized by the following set of reflections: $3.429\mathring{A}(w)$, $3.147\mathring{A}(s)$, $2.188\mathring{A}(s)$, $2.078\mathring{A}(s)$, $1.919\mathring{A}(w)$, $1.763\mathring{A}(w)$, $1.560\mathring{A}(w)$. The samples containing $x$-$\mathrm{C}$$\mathrm{N}$ have clearly defined abrasive properties.
