Abstract:
The activation and diffusion losses in the redox reaction of iodide electrolyte of the Gretzel battery at the anode and cathode were examined. It was shown that the limiting diffusion current of the battery is limited by the diffusion mode of ion transport at the cathode or the anode depending on the composition of the electrolyte. In the case of a porous anode in accordance with the Zeldovich theory, activation losses at the anode are reduced by half compared with a flat anode, and diffusion limitations of the current density are absent. The operational conditions for the battery that reduce the losses were considered.
