Abstract:
A method is proposed for experimentally studying convective heat transfer with the use of thin-film heat-flux transducers of the calorimetric type in a shock tube for the case of the flow of shock-heated gas around a flat plate. A method which involves the use of an image analysis system is proposed for analyzing measurements of unsteady heat flows on the plate. Data from measurement of heat fluxes is presented for the range of shock-wave velocities $3.7$–$5.8$ km/sec, shock-heated-air temperatures $3700$–$6000$ K, and shock-heated-air pressures $0.4$–$3.2$ atm. The results are compared with the results of numerical calculations of the unsteady layer which develops on the flat plate.
