Abstract:
An approximate, analytic solution is given for the problem of the turbulent flow of a liquid around regular arrays of rods, obtained on the basis of an experimentally sound hypothesis concerning the universality of velocity profiles in ducts with a cross section contour of small curvature and a number of assumptions. Empirical coefficients are found from experiments with closely packed rods. A procedure proposed by Rothfus for annular ducts is utilized for large array spacings. A relatively simple procedure is proposed for the calculation of the hydrodynamic characteristics of longitudinally streamlined bundles.
