Abstract: We demonstrate multiple defects of methods of quantitative assessment of national science efficiency, which have been lately wide spread by science ombudsmen and encounter active resistance of the academic community. We also show that significance of contribution of national science to the world one is exaggerated while assessing efficiency of national science. In particular, our investigation revealed the absence of significant correlation between these indicators of contribution and various indicators of national wellbeing.

Keywords: social science and humanities, efficiency, contribution of national science to the world one, quantitative assessment, impact-factor, expert assessment.
