Abstract: A study is made of the possibility of considering the kinematic effects of the special theory of relativity–the contraction of length of moving bodies and the retardation of the rate of moving clocks–as the result of the action of the forces which hold the body in static equilibrium or which accelerate it during its transfer to another coordinate system. A number of illustrative examples are given.
