Abstract:
The introduction of plasma-embedded magnetically insulated current-carrying conductors into a plasma trap magnetic system radically increases the number of possible trap designs. The present review focuses on the studies of β = 1 Galateas conducted in the 1990s. Both general and design-specific Galatea properties are discussed and for a number of specific schemes analytical and numerical calculations are performed. Experimental data on a number of electrical discharge Galateas are presented.
