Abstract:
In 1964, B B Kadomtsev proposed that the results of a linear plasma instability analysis alone can be used to estimate the coefficients of turbulent transport across the magnetic field in a plasma. In this paper, we discuss examples of experimental support for this proposal that concern, specifically, the properties of a turbulent positive discharge column in a strong magnetic field, the ionization turbulence of a weakly ionized plasma in crossed electric and magnetic fields, and turbulence in a tokamak wall plasma.
