On laws of conservation in the electrodynamics of continuous media (on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the S I Vavilov State Optical Institute)

This article discusses conservation laws in the electrodynamics of dissipative continuous media, with particular emphasis on the electric area conservation rule for electromagnetic pulses and its application to short pulse propagation problems in resonant media.
