Optics and electrooptics of chiral smectic C liquid crystals

Abstract: A review is given of optical studies based on diffraction by the supermolecular periodic structure of chiral ferroelectric smectic liquid crystals. Topics discussed include symmetry, physical properties, and electrooptic effects with their possible applications.
