Abstract: Recent major advances in spectroscopic studies at the FIAN Optics Department are reviewed, starting with the development of spaceborn ultraviolet and X-ray solar corona spectrometry and proceeding to achievements in high precision atomic spectroscopy, a field where, given the current arsenal of tools and methods, optical resonances several hertz to hundreds of hertz wide can be observed.
