Vacuum theory: a possible solution to the singularity problem of cosmology

Ya. B. Zel'dovich

Abstract: The present state of the question of the vacuum energy, cosmological constant, and vacuum polarization in a curved non-Euclidean space-time, i.e., in a gravitational field, is discussed. A cosmological model of the early Universe that is a self-consistent solution of the Einstein equations with vacuum polarization on the righthand side has many attractive features.
