Abstract: A key aspect of simulating seismic waves propagation in a medium is the consideration of various inhomogeneities, since significantly affect the actual seismograms. The concept of this work is the use of superimposed grids to define various inhomogeneities such as cracks or unfilled pores. It is expected that this approach will simplify meshing compared to alternative methods such as the finite element method, and improve accuracy.

Keywords: grid-characteristic method, superimposed grid method, inhomogeneities, cracks, porous medium.
