Abstract:
As autonomous vehicles become common, we need a simulation model for a mixed traffic flow. The proposed model can be used to assess the impact of autonomous vehicles on the traffic flow, and to manage the future traffic. The existing models for human-driven vehicles are insufficient. Such models are usually adapted by halving the driver reaction speed and distance to the vehicle ahead to simulate an autonomous vehicle. Much of the current research is focused on connected vehicles. This study considers some approaches to the simulation of mixed traffic flows and traffic prediction, the management of the entire transportation network, autonomous surface vehicles and aircraft (collision avoidance, route planning, and navigation). The existing strategies are categorized and suggestions for further developments are made.
