Abstract: In the ring-diagram approximation a microscopic theory has been developed for short-range effects in metallic ordering binary alloys with arbitrary structure. The configurational free energy of an alloy has been obtained, applicable for systems of arbitrary composition and interatomic interaction radius. As a specific application of the theory the correlation effects have been considered in Fe$_3$Al and AB type superstructures.
